Dr. Amanda Edgar

Optometrist

Dr. Amanda Edgar was born and raised in Clarington and worked as a student during her summers at Justin Barry Optical and Bowmanville Eye Care where she was eventually inspired to pursue a career in Optometry. She started her studies in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph and joined the rowing team to maintain her love of sports and the aquatics. Dr. Edgar finished her education at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry where she graduated with Dean's Honours.

Her clinical externship took place during the COVID-19 pandemic which brought on new challenges and new methods of practicing in an unprecedented time. Dr. Edgar travelled across Canada and practiced in rural Saskatchewan where she provided primary eye care to underserviced communities with minimal access to ocular specialists. This led to an increased responsibility for ocular disease management, including cataract surgery co-management, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment and many other ocular disorders. She also gained extensive knowledge on dry eye management while practicing amongst experienced optometrists in the dry climate of Calgary, Alberta.

Dr. Edgar took the opportunity to fulfill her passion for working with children through her continued commitment to volunteer at the Special Olympics International Opening Eyes program, where she played a critical role in providing comprehensive oculovisual examinations to young athletes with special needs. Dr. Edgar is currently accepting new patients of all ages and excited to return to her hometown to provide eye care to the community she grew up in.
